ALT-2 Gift Cards
Giving a gift card is now becoming the norm for gift giving. The fun and excitement of choosing the perfect gift is slowly slipping away and the convenience of giving cash in the form of a gift card is beginning to take the place of our traditional shopping sprees. No more buying wrapping paper, tape and bows and trying to find a secret hiding place to keep the gift in until the right time. There are many of us who still need to give a "present" all wrapped up with a pretty bow and that's still OK, especially where there are young children in the home. For those of us whose children are grown or no we longer have to consider that aspect in our lives; the gift card is now the answer. Teenagers especially, when you ask them what they would like; they will tell you straight out that they want cash; so, ergo the gift card. And I believe that is due to all the electronic products now available.
Technology has introduced so many products now that people want to make their own selections. There are many choices, from video games, gaming systems, iPods, MP3's, iPhones, computers, laptops, HD televisions to kitchen and laundry appliances; there seems to be an endless barrage of items to select from and each of us want to choose the options specially designed for our needs. If you know what your recipient wants then a gift of that item is perfect, but more than likely they will want to shop for their own type and style and (gigabytes).
Aside from being more economical on our budgets; it is becoming widely accepted. I believe that's because of the convenience of purchasing a gift card and not having to shop for a gift. In the past, families had to plan their activities on the weekends and that included shopping; now those activities have to be planned according to everyone's free time, (if there is such a thing). Many of us have to attend sport activities with our children or we have to work on the weekends. Some of us not only work on the weekends but we have more than one job so we have to plan our activities according to our time off. Those days of unhurried lives are gone.
I am not saying that the gift card should take the place of all gifts, but it has reached a point where it is the ultimate gift. The beauty of the wrapped gift still holds a mystery that can't be replaced but whatever your preference is for gift giving just keep in mind that you can't go wrong with the gift card.
