ALT-2 Fathers Day Craft Ideas for Kids

From 3arf

When children make their dad a craft for Father’s Day, they are not only having fun and being creative, but giving Dad a keepsake that he will treasure as a memory of their childhood.  That's why Father's Day crafts which double as keepsakes are some of the most touching gifts to give. Try some of these great gift ideas that kids can make with minimal help from adults.

[1.] Decorated Picture Frame

This is a great project for any age.  Find a picture of Dad with each of the kids, and then go to a local dollar store to find a plain wooden frame to fit it.  The kids can use paint, glitter, or anything they can think of to decorate the frames.  For an extra special personal touch, they can write a note to Dad on the back of the frame.  The pictures will be a great family keepsake for Dad either hanging up or set on a dresser.

[2.] Dad and Me Booklets

Kids love drawing pictures and telling stories.  What better craft for Father’s Day than to create a storybook of them and Dad?  Create blank booklets for each child by folding three or more pieces of computer paper in half. Staple them in three places along the folded edge to create a binding.  If you’d like you can fold a piece of construction paper on the outside in the same way to create a cover.  Have the children fill their booklet with pictures and stories of their favorite memories/ activities to do with their dad.  He’ll love reading them on Father’s Day morning.

[3.] Personalized T-Shirt

Find a plain white t-shirt in Dad’s size (dollar stores and craft stores often stock blank t-shirts for projects such as this).  Using fabric paint, let the kids decorate the shirt.  A great idea is to have them make hand-prints on the shirt and write their names beneath it.  Dad will think of them every time he wears it, and it will make the kids feel proud when they see him in something they created.  Note: Avoid puffy or three-dimensional fabric paint.  It tends to break apart and look messy.

Of course, a card is always a wonderful craft for kids to show they care, but if you want something a little more creative, these hand-crafted keepsakes will be sure to bring a smile to Dad’s face on Father's Day.
