ALT-2 Extravagant Gifts for Mothers Day
Even before Easter, the Mother’s Day advertisements appear, presenting elaborate and extravagant gifts for moms. Diamond earrings, pearl strands, fancy jewelry boxes and stunning floral arrangements grow ever popular at this time of year.
In some families, children awaken their mothers on this special Sunday in May to present the latest technological gadgets, showy wristwatches, brand-new books, bundles of bath and body products or delicate crystal figurines. Fancy or frilly, feminine or flowery, Mother’s Day offerings are all about making moms feel extra special on this happy holiday.
But what is the most special Mother’s Day gift a mom might receive?
What better present could a mother receive than the loving attention of those she conceived? Store windows are filled with brooches and pearls, but I’d rather have time with my boys and my girls.
An oldproverbsays, “There is only one pretty child in the world, and every mother has it."
Having enjoyed many Mom’s Day celebrations, I have to confess that my own children are the most extravagant gifts anyone has ever given to me. Nothing else comes close.
Maybe it’s because I adopted my kids, so many years ago. I know what it feels like to have someone actually hand you a tiny bundle and say, “This is yours.”
Or perhaps this is because Istep-parentedbefore parenting. I know what it feels like to invest yourself in someone who will never be yours.
Whatever the reason, no Mother’s Day baubles, gems, trinkets or treasures will measure up to the ones who made me a mom in the first place. Mom’s Day gifts may be memorable tokens of love, but they can’t hold the most fragrant candle to the real things.
However, if it makes you feel better, feel free to bring it on for Mother’s Day. Go ahead. Pour on the power. And, in case someone wants to know (before I get out of bed), I like my eggs scrambled, and I like a little lemon and sugar in my tea.
Happy Mother’s Day!
