ALT-2 Do it yourself Fathers Day Cards

From 3arf

Giving dad a Father's Day card is one way of showing your appreciation and love to him especially if you make one yourself. There are many ways to be creative in this, and you don't have to be a guru in card making. The sky is your limit. You can make a card with or without the use of a computer.

If you choose to make a card with a computer program, here is what you can do:

Search for a greeting card making program on the Internet if you do not already have one or have purchased one from your local computer store. Best on my own experience, Download.com is best place to start with. Get the one with the best ratings or if there are not ratings, the most downloads. If you are familiar with using Windows based or Mac graphics programs, you shouldn't have much problem learning how to use a card making program written for either platform.

Download at least two different programs to see which one you are most comfortable with.

Look for some examples of Father's Day cards on the Internet and use them as guides for your design.

Make sure you have enough color ink to print out your final copy of your design. Your printer should have a program that you can use to do so. You do not have to print out a draft-copy if you can have a preview of your design before printing it out. In this way, you can save on ink.

If you are familiar with MS Paint, Paintshop Pro or GIMP but all means draw an image from skretch. If not or your not comfortable with drawing freehand, use the cliparts available in the card making program.

Alternatively, You may want to use your word processing software that has graphics capability to design your card instead. However, it is much easier to use a program designed especially for the work.

Once you have printed out the card, placed it into an envelope so that you hand it to your dad personally or send it to him. Don't have a computer? Prefer not to use a computer?. You can even make a nice Father's Day card without a computer and there are more than one way to do so. Here's one you can make. First of all get the necessary materials - a white piece of drawing paper of A4 or letter size, some crayons or magic pens, old magazines with images of what you dad likes, and paper glue.

Directions:

Fold the paper into half. At the moment treat the folder paper as card without graphics and wordings. If you wish to make the card smaller, you can do so by folding it again into another half.

Cut out some pictures of something you dad likes. For example, if your dad likes football, cut out some color pictures of football and/or footballers from an old magazine.

Paste the pictures onto the front cover of a card. Make sure you leave enough room for the wordings, "Happy Father's Day".

Use crayons or magic pens to write Happy Father's Day above the graphics you have created. You may want to use a different color for each alphabet in Happy Father's Day or black for all the alphabets.

Open up the card and write something nice for your dad. You can even write a poem or copy one which is already in the public domain.

Place the completed card into an envelope so that you can either hand it to him personally or send it to him. Here's another way you can make a card for your dad. To make this card you need an A4 or letter size drawing paper, color pages of old magazines, some magic pens, and paper glue.

Directions:

Fold the paper into half. At this moment treat the folded paper as an empty card with nothing at all. If you wish to make the card smaller, you can do so by folding it again into another half.

Draw an outline of whatever you dad likes with the pencil on the front cover of the card.

Tear the color pages from the magazines into tiny pieces.

Apply glue within the outline of your drawing on the card.

Paste the tiny pieces of the color pages within the outline of your drawing as if you are using the color pages to paint it to create an image.

Write Happy Father's Day about the image with the magic pens. You can use one color for all the alphabets in the greeting or a color for each of the alphabet in it.

Open up the card and write something nice for your dad. You can even write a poem or copy one which is already in the public domain.

Place the completed card into an envelope so that you can either hand it to him personally or send it to him.

Here's one more way of making a lovely Father's Day card for your dad. For this card, you need an A4 or letter size drawing paper, a beautiful photo of a beautiful scenary or something you dad likes, and paper glue.

Directions:

Fold the drawing paper into half. Again treat the folded paper as an empty card with nothing on its cover. If you wish to make the card smaller, you can do so by folding it again into another half.

Apply glue along the age of the back of the photo.

Center and paste the photo onto the front cover of the card.

Write Happy Father's Day above the photo. Again you can have one color for the greeting or a color for each alphabet in it.

Open up the card and write something nice for your dad. You can even write a poem or copy one which is already in the public domain.

Place the completed card into an envelope so that you can either hand it to him personally or send it to him.

Alternatively, if you have a scanner, you can scan the card you have created and print out a copy of it to make it look as if you have professional printed a new card. Be sure to open up the card, and place it in the correct direction before hiting the button to start scanning.

You can also be creative on the card itself by cutting a pattern along the edge of it. You may also want to add something extra to the card. For example, you can make something like "Pull here for a surprise". Instead of writing "Happy Father's Day" on the front cover, you can write "For a wonderful Father" or something similar.

Have fun making a Father's Day card for your dad.
