ALT-22 What you can do to Save Money on Gas
When trying to improve gas mileage, there are things which a car owner must take to heart when it concerns his/her vehicle. With the prices of fuel skyrocketing, it seems ever so important to cut down on gas mileage which means that cutting down on driving is crucial.
.) One way to know that you are getting a lot from your dollars being spent in terms of gas mileage is to make sure your car is working properly. Cars which are checked regularly and have oil changes frequently do usually manage to store more gas for mileage. This is because they are in a very good working condition.
.) If maintenance problems are not dealt with immediately, for example, a faulty oxygen sensor has the ability to be very expensive and can cripple your car's gas mileage and performance.
.) Always remember to check air pressure and the air filter which can save up to 10% on gas mileage. Car tires which are balanced appropriately along with the tire pressure can retain 3% more fuel.
.) It is also important to drive with caution. When drivers do not exceed the speeds 60mph and above, retention of gas on average is around 25%. You can see more when you are sight seeing and there is less stress involved here (this is if you are in a very picturesque area).
.) Equally important is to limit the excess weight on your car. By doing this, the strain on the car's engine and fuel consumption is weakened greatly.
.) Do avoid any access idling of the car's engine for extended periods of time. That burns much needed gas. The purpose would be defeated which is trying to limit the extra amount of gas being burned when the car is parked.
.) How about driving a lot less? This is something not praised by most people due to today's high paced and high maintenance society, but it would cut down on noise and environmental pollution. In addition to that, it would reduce road accidents and the money which is spent getting from one place to the next. This would also affect hospitals as emergency rooms would not be filled as much.
.) In the summer, instead of using the car's air conditioner, how about rolling down the windows or opening the sun roof (if one is installed). It takes 8 more horse power which decreases the gas mileage available. However, if on long trips in places which are very hot in the summer, it would be more beneficial to use the air conditioning to decrease the extra drag on the windows of the car.
