ALT-1 Why you need Determination to Achieve your Career Goals
If you want to get ahead in your career it is worth establishing some goals that you hope to achieve along the way, so that you can find the determination to succeed. Indeed, determination is essential if you want to achieve your career goals, because you have to be clear what you want from your career and where you want to be and to find the motivation and drive you need to enable you to reach the top of your profession. If you have the determination to succeed you won’t let anything or anyone stand in your way and you will be prepared to take whatever steps are necessary to achieve your aims.
It is the determination to succeed which keeps you going when you’re revising for your exams in the hopes of going on to university to study a course which will enable you to pursue the career of your dreams. It is this determination to succeed which keeps you going at university when you’re bogged down with work and you start to question whether it’s all really worth it. It is the determination to succeed which makes working in a low-paid job bearable, as you know that the experience will look good on your C.V. when you begin to apply for better paid, higher status jobs.
If you don’t have any goals to aim for or the determination to help you reach them, you could find yourself drifting aimlessly through life. You may end up doing a job which you don’t particularly enjoy, but which pays the bills. If you don’t have any confidence you may become convinced that this is the only job you can do, so that you never even bother trying to go for promotion. You don’t see the point in looking for another job because you don’t believe anyone else would want to hire you anyway, and so you just trudge along as always.
When you’re a determined individual, you don’t allow self-doubt to get in the way of your dreams. If you’re a teacher and want to end up as a head teacher of a school then you need to have determination, just as you do if you’re a doctor who wants to become a world renowned heart surgeon. Even if you’re starting from a lower base it is always possible to work your way up the career ladder, but this requires you to have a determination to succeed and to be prepared to put to the effort in.
