ALT-1 Why you have to believe in yourself to Succeed in your Career
It is important to believe in yourself if you want to succeed in your career, as otherwise no one else is going to. If you don’t have any belief in yourself you are going to have a hard time convincing employers to hire you, as they will see right through you. When you don’t have any confidence this tends to show when you turn up for an interview, as you’re sat face-to-face with a person who is judging every response you give, which you’re only too aware of. This can cause you to panic so that you give inappropriate answers or don’t come across very well. It’s not only in interviews where your lack of confidence is likely to show up, though.
Indeed, if you don’t have any self-belief this will show in the workplace too. You may have found a way to get past the interview stage, but actually keeping up the pretence of being a confident person for a longer period of time than the half-hour it took to be interviewed can be even more difficult. If you don’t have any confidence to take on new tasks and challenges in the workplace it may come across as though you are work-shy. This won’t go down well with your colleagues or your boss and so you really have to work on your confidence.
This is especially true if you want to build a successful career, rather than being stuck in a low-paying, dead-end job, as most careers require you to be able to interact and communicate with other people. You have to believe in yourself so that you can perform to the best of your abilities in social situations and in the practical application of your skills. If you start to doubt that you are, indeed, a capable person you will find yourself being given the least taxing jobs which will bore you to tears and which will not win you the respect of your fellow workers.
Believing in yourself enables you to push yourself harder than you otherwise could, as you’re not prepared to settle for what you have. When you want to achieve success, you know what you have to do and won’t let any mistakes or the potential for failure prevent you from reaching your goals. If you believe you’re going to succeed you have a much greater chance of actually achieving success, as you will take all the steps you need to in pursuit of your aims without even really needing to think about it.
