ALT-1 What is the Deal with these Scam Jobs
The deal with these scam jobs is that they work. Inevitably, someone out there will fall for the rousing rendition of the infamous Nigerian banker, the doctor, lawyer and politician trying to get funds out of a tyrannical country. Or, your email account had been picked out of Billions of others, and you only have to send in a small amount of money to cover the incidentals. It doesn't matter how out in left field the scam is, if sent to enough people, people who fit the typical scam artists' victims' criteria, some people will send some, or in many cases, all of their money, just hoping to get more.
The one's I can never figure out is where a senior is duped out of some major amount of money in the initial scam, and then more and more as they try to get their initial loss back. Okay, if dementia has set in, it is not really their fault, but their financial institution should see that major funds are all of a sudden being taken from a regularly solid account holder, and freeze the account until the person is talked to. For anyone else, like rich people just trying to get richer (if you had the $500,000 to give away in the first place, why did you need more?), just take the loss, shake your head, and admit that you had the wool pulled over your eyes. That, as well as getting the scammer busted by the cops, is the thing to do after being scammed. Basically, if something seems too good to be true, then it probably is.
Why do people think that you can get something for nothing? That Publishers Clearinghouse is going to show up at their door any minute with an over-sized cardboard check and make all of their financial problems disappear? Well, simply because they have lost all hope, and when someone has lost all hope, they will clutch at straws, thinking "maybe, just maybe I am the winner!" These are the same people that think if they bring a good luck charm to the casino, and pull the lever just the right way at the right time, they will win. Its' the next pull, it almost always is...
Scams work because people want to believe that they have come into an exorbitant amount of money, and luxury street is just around the corner. People want to get out of the life that circumstances have put them in, and start living the life that they either dreamed of, or believe that they deserve. Scams work because there are too many unscrupulous people around the world with access to computers and automatic email systems. Scams work because some people will believe whatever you tell them, and if they are alone in this world, that is the only offer on the table.
