From 3arf

It depends what each one of us consider to be a success on the job. Some people are happy continuing doing what they always have been doing and they see this as a success, some people work towards getting a promotion and only then will they feel they have succeeded, some people are looking for a pay rise and this is their incentive and success; and some people are only happy to fulfill their given task and this for them is a success.

Whatever your interpretation of success might be or job might be, the following are ways to be a success on the job.

1) LIKE YOUR JOB

I believe that liking what you do is very important as when you enjoy doing something, you feel good and you will give it your best, you will perform to the best of your ability. However, it does not mean that all aspects of your job has to be to your liking either. If you don't like your job in general, look for aspects in your job which you enjoy doing and make them as your incentives.

2) KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING

You should have the knowledge and ability to perform your duties and keep on learning and improving.

3) BE SELF-MOTIVATED

Do not base your success upon praise from others, self-motivation is key to improvement and success.

4) BE SELF-CONFIDENT

Confidence is paramount, however the know-how and confidence should go hand in hand. Make sure you know the know-how and go for it.

5) BE HONEST AND LOYAL

Be honest and loyal in all that you do. Do not break the terms of your contract, do not cheat, fake or lie and do not take what is not yours.

6) BE A GOOD TIME-KEEPER

Be early or on time for work, but never late.

7) BE A GOOD LISTENER

Be a good listener and attentive to detail, so that you know exactly what is required of you to do.

8) BRING IMPROVEMENT

Bring change and improvement to the job. Suggest new ways, develop new systems and procedures etc.

9) COMMUNICATION

Good communication skills are imperative at all levels. You should be able to convey a clear message to the recipient in they way that is necessary, whether it be in writing or verbal communication.

10) MAINTAIN A FRIENDLY ATTITUDE

You should have a friendly attitude, be nice to colleagues and senior staff, have good manners and treat them with respect. Be supportive and offer a helping hand if needed.

11) DELEGATE

Don't do every large and small task yourself, delegate, so you are freed to do what you are supposed to do and do not get behind with your work.

12) PERSONAL APPEARANCE

Dress well, look smart and smell nice, comb your hair and clean your shoes.

In short, do your job whole heartedly and you will succeed!
