ALT-1 Valentines Day and the Older Person

From 3arf

You can call me "elderly" now since I've reached the ripe old age of 87. As far as Valentines Day goes, it's a nice time to let people know you love them, no matter what their age. I love to receive flowers and gifts but to me, that's not the important things I love in my life. I will tell you the thing's which mean more to me than a bouquet of flowers, a box of candy or any other material gift.

Give me a man who is thoughtful and helpful every day. I have that man.Give me a man who writes me sweet notes before he leaves in the morning for workGive me any person who talks to me in a nice way, in the grocery store, or anywhere.I love my son or daughters when they call me often to tell me they love me.I love my man who is good to me every day, not just on holidays.Give me a person who is willing to give me a helping hand., even if sometimes I don't think I need it.Bless the young person who rushes to open the door for me.People who help me in my old age are a blessing to me.I love the person who jumps up to give me a place to sit down. It's wonderful to get pictures often of my great grandchildren.I appreciate a hug from my man when he can barely stand on his own two feet.I love hugs from anyone, any time, and any place. It's nice when my husband takes me out to dinner. An occasional phone call from a friend makes my day.It means a lot to me when anyone thanks me for serving my country. Most of all, I love this man who has been my partner for 64 years, who has always been at my side to give me love, comfort when things went wrong (life is never perfect, you know), security, my three wonderful children, and a life full of variety and fun.

All these things and more are more important to me than getting candy, flowers, or any gift for Valentines Day. Those material things are nice but they go away. A smile, a hug, or an act of kindness never leave because I never forget them. Somehow those personal things mean so much to an elderly person. Material things come and go, but people and their actions stay in our hearts every day and on Valentines Day.

The End
