ALT-1 Valentines Day Dinner Ideas
A special dinner on Valentine’s Day for you and your sweetheart is almost a must do. The problem is that like some many special days Valentine’s Day is becoming heavily commercialised. The price of flowers and chocolates skyrockets. Restaurants are booked out months in advance and the emphasis seems to be placed on the amount of money you spend. This is really a sad state of affairs for a day based on love. The really fabulous thing about a romantic Valentine’s Day dinner is that is doesn’t have to cost a bomb and you can really inject some love with a little thought.
Cook at home
Put together a menu and cook up a storm at home. You can set a romantic table for two with a gorgeous centre piece and some candles, a luxurious table cloth and pretty cutlery, glassware and china. Have a bottle or two of wine chilled and keep the menu simple but tasty and prepare ahead so that you can enjoy the night too. Better still, cook together or prepare one course each.
Pack a Picnic
Choose a beautiful location. Pack a picnic blanket; some candle lanterns and a throw or two in case it is chilly! Pack an old fashioned picnic basket with plenty of bite size treats, some wine and plenty of napkins and take your honey out to enjoy the scenery. This would work a treat if it is summer in your country, if it is winter however you will really need to think this through and plan. If it is too cold you could have an indoor picnic, turn off the lights, fill the room with candles and have oodles of cushions on the floor for comfort. Keep the picnic basket and make like you are somewhere else!
Have a cocktail party
This is a great one for the single folk who often feel forgotten on Valentine’s Day. Have a glamorous cocktail party. Invite a group of friends; make sure they all dress up. Have them each bring the ingredients for a cocktail and/or a plate of finger food. Decorate your venue to look glamorous and classy and enjoy a fabulous night.
Book a chef
If you are happy to splash some cash but still want to stay home book a chef to come to you. Depending on the company you book they may also provide all the crockery and cutlery and set up and clean-up for you. Check if they also match wine to their menu. Then all you have to do is relax with your Valentine and enjoy a fabulous meal prepared in your home.
There are endless ideas for a romantic Valentine’s Day dinners, you just have to think a little outside the box. Above all don’t lose sight of what the day is meant to be about.
