ALT-1 Unique Ideas for a Mothers Day Gift

From 3arf

As Mother’s Day approaches once again, many search their brains for a gift to give mom that expresses their feelings, and yet is unique enough to show her she’s special.  No run-of-the-mill gift for you; you want mom to know the gift wasn’t just an after-thought, but a well thought out gesture of love.

  • The gift of time:

One unique gift idea involves giving mom your time.  Once the nest is flown, business tends to bog people down, turning their best-laid plans into useless good intentions.   Showing up to spend time with her on Mother’s Day is a plus, but one could also create a coupon book for mom that incorporates various time-giving ideas, such as a dinner date or a time to come over for a game of scrabble.

  • The gift of work:

Another unique gift is the gift of your handy-man skills.  Mother’s always need help around the house with small things that need fixing or moved.  Knowing you plan a day to help her gives her time to make a list.  Maybe she needs help in the garden, or cleaning out a closet.  Even a young mother can use a set of helping hands once in a while.

  • The gift of your presence:

One gift this mother would love for Mother’s Day is to have all her children and grandchildren present in church with her on this special day.  This isn’t always possible, but be present for your mother on her special day if at all possible.

  • The gift of your talent:

Do you sing, paint, work with wood or have some other skill?  This daughter once wrote a song for her mother and performed it for her in church.  You do not have to be able to write a song or paint a picture to create something unique with your talent as a gift for mom.  Cook her a special item, write a poem (she doesn’t expect perfection), mold something out of clay, or read a poem to her from someone else.  The ideas are limitless, and what mother doesn’t appreciate something from the heart?

  • The gift of your love:

In the end, it really doesn’t matter what you give to  your mother, tried-and-true or unique, your mother will appreciate the thought and the honor you give her on her special day.  If you can’t show up, send a card (hand made is best) and call her up.  If you can show up, do so.  Mom will try not to be disappointed if she doesn’t hear from her children on Mother’s Day, but some small part of her will spend the day in sadness.  Give her what she loves most:  a piece of you!  Make it personal and unique by going out of your way, showing you put thought into pleasing her instead of calling a florist or sending a generic Mother’s Day card.  Give her the gift of you so she can place the memory in that secret cache in her heart to draw out in the lonely moments for years to come.
