Know the width and height of the shape you intend to carve this way you pick out the right size pumpkin.
Cutting out the topPlace pumpkin on a flat surface so it's level. Begin by poking a hole in the top of the pumpkin. Turn the knife sideways and begin cutting out the top. Once you are finished cutting the top out, let the children clean the insides out and set it aside. Kids have a wonderful time completing this task so stand back and let them do all that for you. Be sure to take pictures to remember the fun.Draw or trace the patternDepending on your skills, individuals can either draw or trace desired pattern on the pumpkin. Many men and women simply trace rather than draw because it's easier. Cutting a hole lets heat and smoke from the candle escape and keeps the inside of the pumpkin from becoming black.
