ALT-1 Tips for Building self Confidence in your Job
If you are not confident in yourself it can be the kiss of death for your career. Sure, you will have a job, but what kind of career are you going to have? The business world is not for those who are faint of heart or don't think they have what it takes. In a cutthroat world you have no guarantees in life expect death, taxes and that you believe in you. Unless of course you don't believe in yourself and then you only have death and taxes to look forward to.
Do you want to have more self-confidence? Great, that is the first start toward becoming more confident. You have to wake up in the morning and believe that you are good enough to do the job, or that you deserve that promotion. Who cares if you don't get it, that isn't an indictment on you, it simply says the boss doesn't know what he is losing. That is the mindset you need for confidence.
Did the boss get mad at you today? So what, you are going to get some angry looks from time to time. Let it go. You think that the boss never got any flack from his superiors when he was working his way up? The boss isn't mad at you because he hates you, he is mad because either you simply messed up this one time, or maybe he is hard on you because he wants to push you. People can have funny ways of expressing themselves, so suck it up and keep the faith in yourself.
You are as good as your co-workers. You have to believe that if you are going to become confident in yourself. Just because you lost an argument, or someone did a better job today doesn't mean you aren't as good. Perception is important, but it isn't always correct. Getting knocked down is one thing, but are you going to get back up. People will respect a lesser skilled worker who is willing to fight and stand up for what they believe in. Not every CEO was the greatest at the lower levels.
Just because one company doesn't value you doesn't mean you don't have value. Find a company that fits your mindset, or that will allow you to grow and develop at your own pace. Steve Young wasn't Hall of Fame bound when he played for the Buccaneers. How many people even remember he played for someone before becoming a 49ers legend? Sometimes a change of scenery is all you need to really blow up.
Careers are all about believing in yourself. Find a good fit and you will never have to worry about your career stalling out. Keep the faith and know that there is something out there for you. If you don't believe that no one else will no matter where you are.
