ALT-1 The Top 10 Worst Gift Giving Mistakes

From 3arf

When you are giving someone a gift, you want it to be an exciting and happy event. After all, you've went out of your way to get it and spent some of your hard-earned money to get this person a present. There are some times, however, that a gift may not go over so well or the event of the giving may be tainted by something that is a mistake. The following are the top ten worst gift giving mistakes and you should avoid them at all costs.

1-Giving someone a gift that they are going to have an allergic reaction to is a disaster. This often happens with items that are flavored or scented. If you are going to give this type of gift, be sure that you know that the person is not allergic to it first.

2-Spending too much or too little on a gift for someone can be a mistake, as it can make the other person feel uncomfortable, especially if they have gotten you a gift that is nothing like what you got them.

3-There are some gifts that are too personal for some people. For instance, if you are giving a gift for a workplace gift exchange, there are many items that are going to be way too personal. You should stay with more casual gifts for more casual relationships.

4-Another gift giving mistake is made when you give someone a personal gift in a public gift opening. Even though the relationship may justify the personal gift, it can really embarrass someone to open a personal type of gift in front of other people.

5-Giving a gift to someone you are very close to on the wrong date is a mistake that can really hurt someone, especially if the recipient of the gift is your spouse and the occasion is a birthday or an anniversary.

6-Sometimes, a person will give very little thought to the gift that they are purchasing. This is usually obvious to the person who receives the gift and it is offensive to most people. If you are going to get a gift for someone, take the time to think about what the person would actually like to receive.

7-Putting the wrong tags on your gifts can be a real problem, especially if one person absolutely loves their gift and the other gift isn't something that the other person would ever want, need, or use.

8-It is a big mistake to expect that you will get a return gift from everyone that you buy a gift for. There are some people who don't buy gifts for anyone at all, some who don't buy them for anyone but their family members, and others who would if they had more money, but they simply can't afford it.

9-One of the most fun parts of giving and receiving gifts is the surprise of what's inside. For some people, keeping the secret is incredibly difficult, if they can manage it at all. Telling the person what the gift is, though, takes something away from it, so it is a mistake to do so.

10-If you are a parent who is shopping for a holiday, such as Christmas, when everyone in the family will be receiving gifts, it is a big mistake to get one child more gifts than the other children get. Even if the other kids' gifts cost more, when they are young they won't understand that. Be sure that all of the children are opening the same number of gifts.

When a holiday or other time comes around in which buying someone a gift is appropriate, you don't want to commit a gift giving faux pas. This can turn what should have been a great thing into something that is far less than that. Avoid each of these ten gift giving mistakes so that you can keep your gift as exciting and meaningful as it was meant to be.
