ALT-1 The Duties of the Maid of Honor
The maid of honor is quite possibly the most important person in the wedding party other than the bride and groom. She hold most of the responsibility for the day of the wedding and the days immediately before hand. So just to let the brides know they should get the best present because you want them to still be your friend after the whole thing is over and done with.
As maid of honor you of course are extremely important to the bride in one way or another so what you say to her within a week of the wedding will really be in the front of her mind. Do not tell her things like 'are you sure' or 'lets go to Vegas instead'. This is a very stressful time for her and she will have enough doubts about it. You may have to talk her out of running away enough just from the things running around in her head so in the long run it's just less work for you. Now if he really is a creep you should have brought it up before the week of the wedding, unless he's done something heinous recently you should just slyly make sure it's what she wants and leave it at that.
Definitely keep the brides favorite snacks around you at all times. Comfort food is so important especially when she's nervous and can't eat or possibly dieting to make sure she fits into the dress. They don't think that the dress doesn't really fit if it's too big. Take her out to a favorite restaurant or anything you can to calm down the nerves where you can sit and check up on plans and make lists of things to be done.
Please, please, please don't try to set her up on any surprise dates just to make sure that she really want's to get married. You might think who in the world would do that. Trust me it happens. She wouldn't have said yes and planned everything if she wasn't sure. Again unless the guy is a real heel or he has done something really, really bad setting her up like that will just make her mad ask her first if she's up for the date she probably shouldn't get married.
Your most important job as the maid of honor comes on the day and night before the wedding. Making sure the bride has a good time in a comfortable environment for her. If she's into strippers and dirty stuff have fun and go all out. Make sure thats the type of thing that she wants to do first. Some people are just not comfortable or maybe that's what she does every friday night and she wants to do something else for her bachelorette party. Do something that makes her relax maybe just a nice dinner and some sappy movies and drinks with her girls the night before she loses her freedom.
