ALT-1 The Character Traits of an Outstanding Employee
In this delicate climate, people are finding that they have to be better at their jobs if they want to keep them. There always seems to be someone that is willing to do more for less and do it better so complacency is not an option. Whether you are looking to find an outstanding employee or to become one, there are certain things that make a person really shine.
Skill is one of the most important qualities of an outstanding employee, no matter what other great attributes you may have, if you are no good at your job then you are not going to last. Keeping up with all of the advancements in your field and researching your role as much as possible will mean that you are up to speed and can function to the best of your abilities.
The willingness to learn is another fantastic character trait that an employee needs to have, those that are unwilling to learn new things will always be left behind, whilst those that have taken the time to learn them will be way out in front.
In the workplace it is often necessary to adapt, whether this is to new surroundings, new technology or a new role. Change is scary and most people will resist it, but being willing and eager to change or adapt will make you look like an outstanding employee.
Discretion is the key to being considered an outstanding employee, the ability to exercise subtlety and discretion shows class and this is always appreciated. If you have any complaints about anything then do not make them public, speak to someone privately and keep it between the people that you spoke to. Don’t broadcast it around the office or this will very quickly get back to the bosses and you will be regarded as indiscreet.
Loyalty is something that may not be rewarded any more, but it is still appreciated, showing loyalty to the company will make you stand out above the crowd.
The ability to work well within a team as well as on your own will be of great value to you. Employers want to know that you will be able to get on well with people and they also want to know that you will be able to complete a task on your own when you need to.
Positivity is essential in the workplace because why would anybody want to work in a negative environment? Positivity also shows that you have faith in the company and any projects that it may undertake.
Being an outstanding employee can really improve your job prospects and help you stand out from the crowd.
