Suggestions for Thanksgiving dinner music

Music for the Thanksgiving dinner should enhance the fun and enjoyment of guests. While eating, you will want quiet background music. Before or after dinner, you might go for a sing-along. This can make a wonderful ice-breaker if your guests don’t know one another very well, especially if a few of them are musically inclined.

Sing-Alongs

Sing Christmas songs with a twist. For example, start “The Twelve Days of Christmas” with the following verses and make up more to fill it out:

On the first day of Christmas

My husband said to me,

“This house is a terrible mess!”

On the second day of Christmas,

My husband said to me,

“Where are my socks?” and

“This house is a terrible mess!”

On the third day of Christmas

My husband said to me,

“Is that the laundry?”

“Where are my socks?” and

“This house is a terrible mess!”

On the fourth day of Christmas

My husband said to me,

“Whatcha got for supper?”

“Is that the laundry?”

“Where are my sock?” and

“This house is a terrible mess!”

On the fifth day of Christmas

My husband said to me,

“Whatcha been doin’ all day?”

Whatcha got for supper?”

“Is that the laundry?”

“Where are my socks?” and

“This house is a terrible mess!”

Try adapting other holiday songs such as “Over the River and Through the Woods” or “Deck the Halls.” If someone can play an instrument, talk with that person in advance so she can be ready to lead the singing.

Background music

For the actual dinner, you will want a selection of soft background music that will set a quieter mood and will not interfere with conversation. The flute music of James Galway like his “Seasons”  or a piano selection by George Winston such as his “December” album would be particularly appropriate.

“Winterlude”, produced by John Darnall, incorporates keyboard, guitar and percussion in a very contemplative selection of holiday tunes.

You could also download music from the internet. Check the legality of the site first. A good source ishttp://www.comparemusicdownloadsites.com.

Match the type of music you choose to your guests and your own preferences, and enhance your enjoyment of the holiday dinner.
