ALT-1 Thanksgiving

From 3arf

Thanksgiving is a special holiday for Americans to give thanks and share their blessings.  Families travel near or far to see loved ones, and then help themselves to a big meal.  Of course, you want to make every Thanksgiving a joyous one for your family, which is very easy.  Ideal ways to avoid such a disaster includes planning ahead, comforting your guests and making the most out of family time.

♦ Make meal preparations ahead of time

A lot of families eat a big Thanksgiving dinner that may have taken a couple of days to prepare.  To avoid all the rushing and the stress, make an arrangement to understand what you need for the meal.  Perhaps during the first two weeks of November, you want to check into grocery stores and see what is on sale or what is available.  If you and your family love turkey, and you want the best one in town, it might be best to pick the bird up and store it in the freezer before you cook.

Make a grocery list in advance, too.  This will avoid the last-minute hassling when your guests arrive.  Once you start cooking, first consider making foods that will take more time, like the turkey, or ham.  Then you can prepare side dishes including canned foods, cranberries, potatoes, and more.

♦ Drink responsibly (or don't drink at all)

Thanksgiving, for some folks, is the time to “take shots” and become intoxicated.  A lot of deaths during the Thanksgiving period involve driving while under the influence of alcohol.  If you want to drink, please do not drive.  Have a designated driver take you places or use a cab at least.

♦ Treat your guests right

It is up to you to make your guests feel like they are at home.  Clean the house; try to make it look nice and welcoming to them.  Have the beds ready with clean sheets and pillows.  You can decorate the house if you like; wreaths of fall leaves for the dinner table is one good recommendation.  Also, allow the guests to help themselves to whatever they need; extra blankets for example.

♦ Spent time with family

Who does not want to spend quality time with a loved one on Thanksgiving?  You and your family can watch a movie, share some stories at the dinner table, or literally spend an evening laughing with one another.

By following the tips, you will have a Thanksgiving to remember; the holiday to reminisce good times with your family and friends.
