ALT-1 Study Shows that Diversity Impacts a Companys Success
Diversity is what America is about; without diversity, there would be no America.
Diversity is reflected in our food, our clothes, and in our religions; it would be difficult to walk out of your home without encountering the result of some form of diversity that had been introduced over the years. It has been said by some people that they are Americans, and do not deal with other cultures or minorities. These people seem to forget that there are no true Americans since the American Indian. We are a blend of all the cultures that came before us. All this adds to the variety in our country.
Attending a recent diversity discussion, the case for the hyphenated American; for example, making the statement that a person is an "Italian American." I believe a person is an American of Italian descent. A percentage of the population believes that people must assimilate to their new home. This may be true, but no one should forget their own culture or ethnicity; their children should be taught the ways of their present and original culture.
Other thoughts can be pondered: For instance, intolerance is created out of ignorance and fear, and is exacerbated by family, government, the media, and even the family structure. Proof of these issues can be seen with the structure of our government; wars and communications with the various cultures do not display knowledge of the practices of that particular culture. It becomes easy to accidentally do something that is offensive to them.
I believe traveling; taking the time to learn about the other person, and just generally being open-minded is the first step to getting along with other cultures, ethnicities and minorities.
History all involves sacrifice, but is all worth it? If people invade a country and destroy what is important to the people of that country, what is accomplished? Examples would be the artifacts of the Aztec people being destroyed, temples, mosques and churches of other countries being desecrated.
Diversity must reflect a dialog with others. Learning about the different practices of cultures, trying different foods, and enjoying the styles of others is pleasurable.
On the matter of immigrants coming to our country to take jobs away from us: For the most part, these are hardworking people who take jobs for marginal pay, and fill jobs a majority of Americans deem are beneath them.
The balance can be skewed: If, for instance, African Americans received jobs that Caucasians might have perceived were rightly theirs-it might be because the situation had been too skewed in the other direction for a long time. It took a longer time to find a balance, if one was ever found.
America is diverse; it must remain that way with no group of people trying to dominate the rest. America, as a young country and must learn to adapt to everyone and be at peace with others and ourselves.
A country without diversity would be very dreary. So, yes, it is more than important, it is central for our survival.
