ALT-1 Single on Valentines Day
Valentine’s Day is the only day of the year that people truly band together in the desperate pursuit of love. Singles on Valentine’s Day might feel as though they are the only ones without a romantic date to attend after the work day is over. However, that doesn’t mean that everyone without a sweetheart is condemned to sit at home watching old episodes of Full House. The nightlife is exploding with romance and anyone without a date shouldn’t have to look very far to find something entertaining.
Some of the clichés commonly found in chick flicks actually exist in real life. Many nightclubs throw open their doors and welcome the singles of the city to an anti-Valentine’s Day party. A simple Internet search is all it takes to find one of these events nearby. Young and women, usually sporting broken hearts, get together at these unique events to mingle with fellow singles and let go of past relationships. Valentine’s Day is a wonderful time to meet new people and potential love interests. You never know when a club or a bar could be hiding that special someone.
However, if heading out into the crowd isn’t the best idea, singles still have plenty of fun options that don’t involve sulking at home. Calling up some friends and scheduling a movie or game night is sure to lighten the mood. Buying chocolates and exchanging them between friends can be a nice way to make sure that you still have a little something sweet waiting on Valentine’s Day. Sometimes, just having company for a few hours is enough to take the edge off being dateless for the big day.
People who have recently broken off their relationships should do their best not to dwell on the past. A night out with friends (or even just one friend) can be extremely therapeutic. Take pictures in new places and use those photographs to fill the frames that formerly held the face of your ex-lover. Enjoy the excitement of being single and free of obligation!
People should also remember that Valentine’s Day isn’t just about romantic love. It is a day of celebrating the love that families, friends, and even co-workers can hold for each other as well. Making Valentine’s Day treats for relatives or peers is a way to keep busy, while simultaneously helping to brighten someone else’s day. Ultimately, that’s the spirit of Valentine’s Day.
If nothing else can raise your spirits, just remember that somewhere in the world, someone has forgotten that it is Valentine’s Day, and realize that there are worse things to be than single.
