ALT-1 Signs you need to Change your Job
There are many signs that you need to watch out for that may indicate that you need to change your job. On their own, these signs may not necessarily mean that you have to change your job, but when you find that most of these signs are how you feel then it’s time to think about changing your job.
Not everyone may feel that the time is right to quit their job and start hunting for a new one. Sometimes you may not be entirely satisfied with some aspects of your job but there are plenty of perks that make you want to stay.
So how do you know whether it’s time to change your job? Here are some signs that can suggest that you need to change your job:
Lack of passion
A job where you do not have any passion is a sign that you should change your job. Even in the most difficult work situations as long as you have passion for your work and profession you are able to get through most things.
Not being passionate often goes alongside a lack of motivation and productivity. Over a long period of time you feel unsatisfied with your performance and so end up feeling frustrated and stuck in a dead-end job.
Feeling passionate about a job is when a job doesn’t feel like a job. Some people will prefer stick to such a job even if there are other factors that aren’t great (such as the pay).
Differences with your boss/colleagues
There are going to be times in the office where you and your boss/colleagues do not see eye-to-eye. While most of these situations are going to be minor in nature if you feel like you are not getting along at all you may wish to consider changing your job.
Disputes in the office can be dealt with effectively and so a conflict in the office place is not always a sign that you need to change your job. If though the office has become an unbearable place for you then you should change your job.
Lack of benefits that you need
Not all jobs offer perks and benefits but the job itself is so tempting that you are willing to do it anyway. Other times though you may wish to have certain benefits but there is no chance of that with the job you are currently taking. Health care insurance is one benefit that many people with families need or want to have.
Not having benefits in your current job on its own may not be the sole reason for changing your job. Combining this sign with others in this list may together though be a sign that you need to change your job.
No opportunity to update your skills
Having a wide range of skills can be a great asset for any person looking to get ahead in business. With the current economic situation many people are worried rightfully about job security.
Not having adequate skills in today’s job market means that you will be struggling to find work if you no longer had your job and were forced to look elsewhere.
Some companies train their staff so that not only does the business stay competitive the employees have the right set of skills to complete work. Even if the company does not offer training to improve skills you can pay for courses yourself.
Not having the opportunity to update or fully utilize your skills in your current job could be significant when you are deciding as to whether or not you should change your job.
You are not being paid enough
Many people equate financial reward with being valued at work and job satisfaction. After all one of the purposes of work is to get paid. Not being paid enough for your work can leave you feeling undervalued and dissatisfied with your job.
When it comes to pay another issue which is relevant to many people is how much other people are being paid. If colleagues are under qualified or experienced yet are being paid more than you then rightly you will feel annoyed.
Often though this sign is not enough for you to change your job. You can always request or make your case to your boss as to why you want an increase in pay. If the company rejects this and you feel that is not right you should then seriously think about changing your job.
Give serious thought to changing your job and discuss it with relevant people. No matter how you feel at your current job you should quit in a just fashion. Give two weeks’ notice and tell your boss why you wish to leave.
On their own most of these signs may show that you are not happy with your job but are not reasons why you should immediately quit and change your job. Some signs when combined with others though will show a clear indication that it is the right time to change your job.
