ALT-1 Reasons to Make a Career Change

From 3arf

It is always difficult to find the motivation to change careers, especially if you have managed to build up a successful career in a specific field. Changing careers can be rather daunting, as it means starting out from scratch with no guarantee of success. You could end up throwing away a decent career for the sake of a mid-life crisis or because you don’t get on with your current boss. Even if your career isn’t quite going the way you hoped it would, you still have contacts and experience that you won’t have in other areas. However, if you’re serious about changing your careers you shouldn’t allow these concerns to hold you back.

There are plenty of reasons to consider a career change besides a mid-life crisis, but obviously your age may come into play. Perhaps your children are all grown up and you no longer have to worry about earning as much money to provide for them, so that you can afford to take a pay cut to get a job that you will actually enjoy. You may have become rather bored of the career you’ve got, having done it for so many years, but had to keep doing it because you were earning a decent salary.

When you decide to change careers, there is obviously an element of risk, because you don’t know if the career path you choose will suit you or whether you can make a real go of it. You may have to re-train and learn new ways of doing things, but you shouldn’t let this put you off, so long as you are prepared to put the effort in. If you’re fed up with the career you’ve got you may be in need of a challenge, which changing careers can certainly provide you with.

By changing your career you should hopefully be able to develop a passion for work, again, rather than dreading it. Although there is always the potential for failure, if you pursue a career that challenges you and that interests you, you’re much more likely to succeed. It may take you awhile to achieve your career goals, but the main thing is that you have the determination to keep on trying. At the end of the day, you only live you once and since you’re going to spend quite a few years of your life working, you may as well try a different career for size. You never know, it may be a better fit than the career you’ve got at the moment.
