ALT-1 Qualifications a Housewife can use on a Resume
A recent study conducted shows that housewives duties actually add up to a substantial income over the course of a year, approximately sixty thousand dollars. So now that you are getting back into the work force after being a stay at home housewife, you need to put all that hard earned experience in your new resume.
Shocked you say? Why, that you can use those things? Well you can, let’s face it you have already been a “CEO”; they are responsible for everything the company does and the people who work there. Then there is the “CFO”, who takes care of all the financial record keeping and helps the business grow. The “COO”, is a person who is the chief operating officer and leads the way in getting things done in a timely manner.
But if this all seems too big to take in all at once, then lets break it down a little bit more, to make it all come into focus.
Accounts payable, accounts receivable, balance checkbook, complete laundry service, food shopper, preparer of meals (chef), menu planner, and substitute teacher for homework on all grade levels. Answering service of the entire family, floor cleaner, entire house duster, dog walker, groomer, animal keeper, nurse in the middle of the night.
From time to time you have been a project designer for children’s project or family events, problem solver, handy man for kid’s broken or non- working toys. A creative thinker for most home decorating, or a carpet, appliance, and furniture cleaner. Sometimes a referee to settle family disputes. You have been a cake baker on more than one occasion, a party planner and the all around neighborhood special events taxi driver.
These are but a few of the things that a housewife actually does on a daily or monthly basis and never gives it a second thought. It is just something that has to be done and as the mom we do without thought and it becomes a routine of habit. If all these things were to be done in a work place environment, they would all be a well paid for position.
When you get ready to include some of these items on your resume, just list your start date and end date, as you would for any other job reference and pick and choose the specific things that do apply to your experience as a housewife. Simply list what you did and in what capacity for that time period.
It will be much better to have this included on your resume, so that any future employers can see firsthand what it was you were doing between jobs, instead of it showing a large gap in employment and no explanation as to why.
