ALT-1 Overview of Electric Cars
My next car will in fact be an electric ZAP Alias car and I couldn't be more excited! I watched gasoline hit $4.00 a gallon this week in my local area and decided that it is time to look for alternative forms of transportation. I've been doing plenty of research over the past few months and I stumbled across the ZAP (Zero Air Pollution) electric vehicle manufacturer in the process. Based on what I've seen, ZAP cars are about to become a major player in American vehicles. ZAP cars are already being sold at dealerships in Florida and California and I firmly believe that it is just a matter of time before they make it to dozens more states.
The one thing I don't understand is why thousands of car, truck, and SUV dealerships across the country are not smart enough to get their hands on a few of these little electric beauties. The two dealerships already selling the cars have received international publicity over night. What business wouldn't jump at the chance to have millions of people across the globe talking about their products? Businesses such as Coca Cola, UPS, and Domino's Pizza are already making use of ZAP vehicles today. ZAP has already sold over 100,000 vehicles and is currently taking orders online at www.zapworld.com.
The ZAP Alias is currently scheduled to be released in 2009 and I'm hoping to be one of the first in my city to own one. The Alias looks like something from "The Jetsons" with its sleek body and only 3 wheels. This little car will travel at speeds up to 100 mph and up to 100 miles on a single charge. It has almost zero negative impact on the environment and operates on one to three cents per mile, depending on passenger weight and terrain.
Okay, so the Alias won't replace my Toyota Corolla that I love so much, but it will certainly cut down on my fuel bill. I work only about 5 miles from home, my family and friends are all close by, and I have hundreds of stores and shops within a five mile radius. I would venture to say that 95 percent of my travel is within ten miles of my house. An electric car would be perfect! Not only does it cost less to operate than a gas guzzling car, but the insurance is also less expensive. ZAP cars start at about $11,000 and go up from there. I'll admit that the one I've got my heart set on is a bit expensive, and when it comes time to write the check I might talk myself into a lesser expensive model.
Almost every person I know has growing concerns over the price of gasoline and what is happening to our economy because of it. I'm also concerned about the environment and the effects of global warming. It appears to me that electric cars would not only cut down on our fuel cost and slow down global warming, but it would also reduce our need for foreign oil.
If you have never given much thought to electric cars before, then perhaps it is time for you to begin a little research, especially if you are tired of pouring your hard-earned cash into your gas tank. You just might find yourself buying an electric car or truck in the very near future.
