ALT-1 Making Thanksgiving Holiday Plans without Hurting Familys Feelings
Thanksgiving Day Fun
If yours is the type of family who loves getting together on Thanksgiving day, and the sooner and longer the better, it is a good idea to have a little preplanning done to help the time go a little smoother for all the young ones who will be spending lots of time at your house that day! Great memories will be created from the day spent at Gramma's or Aunt Jane's if there are a few things in place before the big day arrives.
Probably the first thing to consider is the comfort of the wee ones who will be needing a nap sometime throughout the festivities. Make sure that you have a crib handy, if needed, which can mean getting one out of the attic and dusting it off, borrowing one from a friend or renting one for a couple of days from your neighborhood rental store. Believe me, these shops are ready for this during the busy rush of holiday visitors! Along with safe and quiet napping areas, figure out if you will need to have a few diapers and wipes on hand, just in case. Once this part of your plan is in place, the next thing to consider is how to keep all those active and excited youngsters occupied while the grown ups are visiting.
If you don't have some children's games at your house, think about borrowing these either from a well-stocked friend with young ones or another good idea is to check out your local library. Some of these have a supply of games that they will loan out just like library books. If you are lucky enough to have one of these in your area, it is definitely worth looking into.
Along with a few favorite and popular games, it is always a hit to have a special place designated as a craft spot where you have a table and chairs set up with all kinds of arts and crafts supplies available to keep busy and active kids occupied for quite a while. Some sure-to-please things to include here are brightly colored construction paper, safety scissors, glue sticks, popsicle sticks, pipe cleaners, washable markers and crayons, stickers and whatever else you can think of to delight the budding artist! Another fun activity to have is a coloring contest with a Thanksgiving scene or turkey theme. The adults can be the judges and make sure there is a prize to be awarded to everyone.
With a little forethought and imagination, you can plan a Thanksgiving celebration at your place that is sure to create lasting memories of the good kind for all the grownups and kids at your holiday table. Happy Thanksgiving!
