Making Career Changes Mid Life:

To a professional who has worked at the same company for so many years, has learned every aspect of the business and is very good at what he/she does, change may be frightening. Though if this same individual, has reached that plateau that any other company or job eventually has. Is it better to just remain there knowing you cannot move forward? To merely exist until retirement? Seems to me the best thing for this individual is to face that fear head on and start the process of moving on. The same process that will most likely have ups and downs. So many variables that the journey itself may be difficult, though necessary to make that quality decision to grow and improve who they are and their own financial situation.

The first step of course is making that decision to do what they need to do. To start looking at the many positions they may of previously had an interest in. To put together a list of some of the places they know they would enjoy working. In referencing this list they can start looking at the skills gained from the job they hold now and then implement them in a whole different direction. That direction is the way to a better financial situation as well as something they can enjoy until retirement becomes a good possibility. Perhaps it is just a simple matter of being able to enjoy further flexibility so the job they may be looking at would require less of a time commitment, and they can enjoy the job and life.

Each of us have different dreams, when someone reaches this point in their life, it is sometimes difficult to remember and grasp these same dreams that you were excited about before. At this point in life, why not remember those dreams and do something about them. If it is writing a novel, a collection of short stories, or manufacturing something you know that is quality, it is at this moment you should get to it and get going with it. Change is a wonderful thing, grasp it as a possibility for better life. Jump into it and focus, you have the skills and the abilities implement them in your own plans.

Surely it will be difficult but which is better to put up your tent on that plateau and sit there until retirement, or move that same tent to a place in the woods surrounded by redwoods. A different perspective, a different set of opportunities. The plateau is nothing in comparison to the great mountain you will reach the top of soon enough by just making that quality decision to grow beyond what you know. In enjoying what you do the climb is so much more exciting. So get out there and do it, change is a constant don't let it just pass you by.
