ALT-1 Hybrids
Hybrid cars are seen as the greenest cars available on the market today. They are supposed to be much better for the environment than any other car today, but most of us have no idea what makes them the best. Most of us know that hybrid means combining two things and that's about it. So what are hybrids really, and how does this help the environment?
Lets start with what all this talk of "Green" is. The green movement is taking all the conveniences of today that society has gotten from the evolution of science, and making them more safe and clean for our environment. We are doing this because we have been seeing, and finally recognizing the impacts we have had on our planet. What we have done has made an impact so large that one day we may even have to leave the planet, and if we don't do something now that fate will be ours.
The thing we have done to negatively affect our environment is basically releasing harmful emissions in to the air. Things like CO2 are put into the air everyday from all sorts of things we use. Mainly gas cars put off CO2. What the CO2 does is quite simple. Once it leaves your exhaust it goes into the air where it travels up to the ozone layer, a protective sheet in the atmosphere, and can't leave because of the ozone layer. So it heats up from being closer to the sun and comes back down to earth. After so many of these gasses repeat this process two things happen. First the planet begins to heat up because of the excess of heat being brought to the planet, and second the ozone layer that protects us from harmful sun rays is broken down and weakened. The over release of CO2 is harming our planet and its environment.
We want hybrid cars as an alternative to the gas using vehicles. So we came up with things called hybrids. The word hybrid means combining two things to make a new product. In the case of hybrid cars we have combined gas and electric cars. Electric cars were tested and found unusable for certain reasons and the idea was discarded. The idea has been brought back up and the technology has been integrated with the preexisting technology of gas cars.
Hybrid cars don't burn as many emissions as gas cars. This is because when the car has an alternative source to pull energy from less gas is used. Hybrid cars use the electric technology to run the car as far as it will go until the stored energy runs out. It then changes over to the gas tank. New electric technologies are springing up making the stored energy last longer so less and less gas is used. Gas is only used on long trips and therefore the emissions are far less greater.
By cutting polluting emissions the environment takes far less damage from cars. Hybrid cars are the face of the future and as technology grows so will the use of the hybrids. The hybrids help the environment by reducing emissions and are doing a major part in todays green movement.
