ALT-1 How to get Started Reviewing Books

From 3arf

I have been reviewing books for six years. My website or name has made it into the critic section of books by authors as well known as Nicholas Sparks or newbies such as Jim Hansen. One thing is all the same, I have chatted with some fabulous authors and I have experienced books I otherwise (sadly) would have missed.

Some people have no idea what book reviewing entails. Many come into my house, see the books, and figure I get paid thousands. This is not the case. If you get into book reviewing, you do so for the love of books. A free book is your payment. Why review? I LOVE reading. From the time I turned four, I have been surrounded by books. Dr. Seuss, Lois Duncan, Judy Blume, Norma Klein, and Stephen King are only a few of the authors over the years who have shaped my passion. And, that's just it, you must be passionate. I can read upwards of four books per day if I have no other tasks on my list.

There are hundreds of review sites, the increased number has led to fierce competition. To gain books, you should consider books that others might bypass. My review site covers both non-fiction and fiction. Few reviewers will review classic fiction. I find I love reading the older releases. Having finished Jane Eyre in the past month, I am surprised I'd never discovered the book before. I can't wait to read more by Charlotte Bronte.

Realize that if you promise to review a book, you must follow through. I can get behind, but I will still get the review done! Even if you dislike the book, you cannot toss it aside. Good or bad, the review must be completed.

Book reviewing and book reports are different. Book reviewing never gives away the ending of the book. I've read reviews where the character names were wrong, the setting was incorrect, or it became obvious that the reviewer never finished the book. This should not happen. If you commit to review a book, follow through.

Many websites look for reviewers regularly. The number of people who feel reviewing is perfect for them and then realize it is not is high. Check with the sites periodically to see if they are looking for new reviewers.

These sites all need staff from time to time:
