ALT-1 How to Find the Motivation you need to Achieve Career Success
Do you want to be successful in your career? If so, you are going to want to make sure that you are finding healthy ways to motivate yourself. Your career isn't going to be all sunshine and roses, and sometimes you might lose focus of your career goals. When you get off track, you have to find ways to get it together and keep going. How do you do that?
A great way to get yourself motivated is to have a goal that you want to accomplish at each job. What do you want to learn? Who do you want to meet and how can you make this job into something more than what meets the eye? Some jobs are dead end jobs even if they are vital for career success. You might want to be a football coach, but you have to spend time scouting players in the middle of nowhere first to work your way up.
How do you make that worth your while? That is up to you, but you should find the silver lining in each job. If you are just starting out in your career, you should take the time to simply learn how to be a professional. This is a vital skill that not everyone bothers to learn. Find a mentor who will show you how to be a professional and show you the ropes. At least you will be occupied while you start your long journey to the top.
If there is no one in the office who will help you out, you can always go to a seminar. Go listen to a prominent person in your industry, or just a success in general. Find out what makes them so great and what motivates them to succeed. You can learn a lot by listening to the stories of others.
Remember that the only person who cares about your success is you. No one is going to take you by the hand and take care of you. Your boss doesn't care if you get fired, he only cares about making money. If you are not doing your job you will get cut from the team very quickly. Once you have been fired, demoted or fall out of favor, you will see that urgency and survival instinct are great motivators.
Motivating yourself to do a good job and achieve career success should come naturally after awhile. You will know what you want to accomplish and how to get it done. Someone might have to show you, or teach you that you should keep your eyes to the future, but you will figure it out sooner or later.
