ALT-1 How Determining what your Strengths and Weakness are could Benefit your Career

From 3arf

Do you want to know a good secret for career success? You should really start to learn your strengths and weaknesses and then apply them for the future. Your career can go places if you know what you are good at and apply yourself to those areas. On the other hand, it can suffer if you decide that you are going to put a square peg through a round hole and try to do things that you are not good at.

Career success is partially about becoming better at the things you aren't as good at. You do need to learn how to overcome your weaknesses and grow as an employee, but what happens if you don't even know your weaknesses? Most of us have some idea as to what our weaknesses are, but are too stubborn to acknowledge we might not be the best at everything.

A good career requires focus and a plan. You need to know where you are going and what you want to do in your career. This means that you have to identify at least five things that you want to achieve in your career, and five strengths that are going to help you get where you want to go. The merging of your strengths and your interests can make you a powerhouse in your industry.

Knowing your weaknesses can help you cover them up. Say you were on a football team, and you were really slow. Would you go up to the coach and ask to play running back? Probably not, you might instead ask to be the kicker, or the tight end where speed isn't really a need area. Having a good idea of what position you could play on your team at work will help you have a better career because you will stand out in your area.

Finding out where are you strong can give you the confidence you need to pursue your career goals and aspirations. It will allow you to be more upfront with your colleagues and those above you because you will know that you are good at certain things and will speak up about it. This will show others that are confident in your abilities and are willing to pitch in to help others. This helps your career out immensely.

We all have to spend a little time getting to know ourselves before we embark on a career that is going to be successful. What are we aiming for and what are we going to do to get there? How do we show our strengths without exposing too many of our weaknesses? Once you figure that out, your career will be the one that you really want to have.
