ALT-1 Hopeless on Valentines Day

From 3arf

Does Valentine’s Day have you feeling down and hopeless? When you are alone on the day of the year specifically designated for lovers, you may feel somewhat bereft.

You might be surrounded by constant reminders of your singleness; everyone seems to be receiving chocolates, flowers and love messages but you. Perhaps you have just broken up with your boyfriend, or have yet to meet a special someone.

Tips for combating hopelessness on Valentine’s Day:

  • Give love to others

Giving to others will lift your spirits. Look around and see who else is apt to be alone and lonely on Valentine’s Day. If there is an elderly widow in your apartment building, leave a heart-shaped box of chocolates by her door, with a note, “From your secret admirer.” Call your mom and tell her you love her. Wish everyone you encounter a happy Valentine’s Day, and you will find happiness creeping into your own spirit.

  • Love yourself

Luxuriate in a warm bubble bath. Turn on soft music, light a candle and treat yourself to a glass of wine. Buy yourself a favorite book, a new blouse or your own heart-shaped box of chocolates. Be your own best friend.

  • Make a gratitude journal

Feeling hopeless is an indication that you are focusing on what is lacking in your life.

Write down all the positive things that you are grateful to have experienced that day and all the other days of the year. Start with the basics; a job, a place to live, food, when so many in the world are going hungry. Move on to family, friends, good health; before you know it you will have a long list.

  • Establish some goals

To accomplish anything, you must first have goals. Visualize what you want, and how you would like your life to be, by the next Valentine’s Day, and take steps to achieve those goals. Perhaps you would like to lose weight, make more friends, get a better job.

Achieving those specific goals might require becoming a member of a health spa, joining a church group or club, and going to night school for additional training in your field. All of those endeavors will put you in a position to meet new people and make new friends.

By following through with an active plan for achieving your goals, you could potentially have an active social life and a new love interest before the next Valentine’s Day arrives.
