ALT-1 Great Fathers Day Gifts from a Wife to her Husband

From 3arf

Father's Day is an event that can be very individual to each family. Some may consider it as a special day to recognize a man's ability to be a loyal and loving provider. Another perspective may consider it as nothing more than an obligatory holiday that comes attached to the title of being a father. Choosing a gift for your spouse on his special day should reflect the type of father he is, and not every man needs an endowment that includes a hefty price tag.

To decide what gift is right for your spouse you will first have to know your better half. Does he like to golf, or partake in any particular sport? If so than this might produce a good opportunity to tantalize him with tickets to his favorite team, or a relaxing day at the Golf course to appease his sporting fetish. Now, if your partner isn't a fan of sports or other recreational types of play, you may have to pay close attention to find that perfect something.

Some men don't want a big expensive gift, and are quite happy to just receive a loving kiss, followed by breakfast in bed. This type of dad would much rather have his family take him out to his favorite restaurant, and maybe even a small token to show he is special. Dad's come in all shapes and sizes and none two are completely alike, but there are specific characteristics that should act like guidelines when finding a gift for Father's day.

I hope my category titles won't offend any of my fellow male counterparts who have children, but sometimes I just have to call it as I see them!

The glamor dad:

This dad wears fine tailored suits, and has expensive tastes. He can be modest, but even a tacky number one dad T-shirt will only get a couple wears before it disappears into the abyss of his closet. He might rather receive a watch or some other gratuitous trinket to add to his growing collection, but to ensure that warm and fuzzy feeling; engraving something sweet will remind him how special he is. Honestly this dad would be much more happier receiving something that glitters, rather than something as plain as a coffee mug. A thoughtful gold pendent, cuff-links or an imported silk tie, will be a step in the right direction.

The face painting never misses a game, sport's dad:

This dad is all about his favorite team and boasts a wealth of knowledge about almost every sport known to man. He diligently follows almost every sporting event, and is unlikely to miss even a single playoff game. This dad is simple to please with a pair of tickets to his favorite game, but long after the actual event the effects will have worn off. I suggest a more personal touch to really make him feel special. Go out and buy a sports jersey from his favorite team, but instead of just giving him a typical branded team jersey, you can have his name added with a number one or something to that effect that he can feel proud to wear around his sport buddies.

The big kid that never grew up dad:

This dad secretly covets his childhood, collecting items on E-bay or through various other channels. He gets down on the floor and plays with the kids as though he was having just as much fun as his children. He loves to shop at the toy store and seems to have no problem being exposed to cartoons and video games. A great idea for this dad could require a bit of work to hunt down something that will be sure to delight. A hard to find action figure (don't dare call them dolls) or another relic to add to his most prized collection will make his Father's Day! Sure, he probably would smile and say thank you after receiving a tie, but find that special childhood memory and you might just catch a sparkle in his eye.

The techno dad:

This father is a connoisseur of all that is electronic. He craves the latest in technology and knows exactly what he wants and when it's going to be available to buy. If your man purchases at least one gizmo a month, and can't be without something that bleeps or buzzes, you only need one stop to please him, which will be the electronics department. If you're not tuned to his geekness, than you may need some assistance to ensure your gift is going to win him over. Take some time to check out what he already has, and pay attention when he is looking over the flyers to see what page he seems to hover over. It might be new MP3 player, or the latest Blackberry, either way if it has batteries than it will probably put a smile on his face. If he is into video games than peruse his collection to see what he doesn't have, and don't be afraid to ask any of his friends who he games with. A Sony PSP or Nintendo DS, are great if he doesn't already have a portable system, but a couple games he'd love will be equally as satisfying if you're trying to find a special something for a gamer.

The simple dad:

This dad doesn't care if he drives the best car, or if he wears the trendiest fashions. He may be less focused on sports, but still enjoys going out on a camping trip. He doesn't seek recognition for his contributions, but he works hard to provide for his family. To choose a perfect gift for this father is simple because almost any gift will do. I know you want to get him the perfect gift, but this man is happy with just about anything you get him, save a pair of socks (no man wants socks from his wife). His practical nature would be much more satisfied receiving something he needs, instead of some frivolous token.

The gear head dad:

Does it go fast, or does it come with horsepower? This dad is a car junkie and loves everything that comes with a pair of wheels. His garage is like a holy shrine dedicated to his quest to achieve a perfect balance. If he is working on restoring a car, your task is going to be simple to make him feel special. Find a hard to find part wrap it up, and soon he will be glowing with delight. If he doesn't have a car, you could get him a really cool model or replica if you can't afford the real thing. Adding another tool to his growing collection will suffice to appease his quest to tool greatness. However, assuming that he already has enough tools (yeah right!), you could rent a hot rod for a weekend of cruising.

No matter what father type your man may be there is a universal gift that still goes farther than most typical gifts; Love! OK, sounds sappy but most men want to know that they are loved. Flowers and candy aren't going to cut it! Once dinner is finished and the kids are tucked away in bed, a relaxing massage and some fancy lingerie will satisfy almost any dad on his special day. Yes, giving your man an all out blow your mind romp in the hay, will be like icing on the perfect cake. I am not saying it is a prerequisite to a ensuring your spouse is happy on his day, but being in love and sharing it is sometimes a gift that money can't buy.

Good luck and Happy Father's Day!
