ALT-1 Gift Wrapping Ideas for a Hard to Wrap Gift

From 3arf

You found the ultimate gift for your loved one and you simply can’t wait to watch their face when they unwrap it. But you realize that there is one small problem, this gift isn’t going to be particularly easy to wrap! While it’s easy to say that the wrapping paper is merely fluff and not nearly as important as the gift itself, you may find more comfort in checking out some of the suggestions below:

Large Gifts

Large gifts can be a real challenge! To combat the problem, consider letting the gift go free! Not all gifts need to be swathed in wrapping paper. Stick a large beautiful bow on top of the gift and present it to your loved one on the holiday. If you insist on having the large gift hidden in plain sight beneath the Christmas tree, you can use a large box or even a large garbage bag to hide the gift before adding a bow on top.

Small Gifts

Small gifts can be a challenge to wrap as well. Consider putting small packages in slightly larger boxes that make wrapping the gifts a bit easier.  Jewelry can be placed on a teddy bear while gift cards can be wrapped in an envelope.

Oddball Shapes

If you have a uniquely shaped gift, you can put the gift inside a box before you wrap it.  Another way to combat difficult shapes is to use large gift bags or gift baskets that easily accommodate the unusual shape.  Fabric is much more forgiving than wrapping paper when you’re trying to cover a strangely shaped object. Consider using scraps of fabric, towels, etc. to wrap gifts and tie them up with a ribbon.  Not only will the fabric accommodate the shape, it provides a reusable (and thus more environmentally friendly andeconomical) way of wrapping your gifts.

Shipped Gifts

The key to wrapping shipped gifts is to be sure that the gift doesn’t break in travel. Using tissue paper, bubble wrap, packing peanuts, etc. can reduce the risk of damage during transport.  When wrapping gifts, it’s recommended that you use sturdy packages; gift boxes can give shape and stability.  After you’ve wrapped your gift in whatever type of wrapping paper you selected, avoid using bows or gift toppers that can get crushed during travel; trimming packages with flat ribbon is a nice compromise between plain packages and the ornate bows.

Don’t let difficult packages make you feel defeated this holiday season.  With a few additional steps or simple accommodations, you can come out on top in this year’s difficult gift wrapping challenge.
