There is an opening for a higher position at your office, you are a possible candidate but so are 30 other employees. You could take a chance and hope that management has recognized what you think are outstanding services. Or you can make your self be the qualified candidate with the following steps.Stand out: Don't be another faceless employee, try to stand out. If you can stand out more people will recognize your plans and your action in the workplace. Do things no one else has thought of and act in a fearless manner. This will help management recognize you as a possible candidate for a promotion.Impressive reputation: Make sure everyone knows who you are and what you have accomplished in the office. If people know about you then you have become management go to person while being a god to everyone below you.Have several skills no one else has: Don't be replaceable, try to have as many skills that are always be in demand. This would make your services be high in demand. But don't pass your skills on to anyone below you, then you have become easily replaceable and a candidate to be laid off. Make sure that you are so highly valued that letting you go would be a mistake.Ruin your competition: The first three required that you to be presented as an individual who is right for the position without doubt, now its time to wage an intelligence war against your rivals by discrediting them. This is one of the most overlooked actions because some are to afraid to get dirty. Try to consider that this promotion might require to do some dirty work, so it helps to get use to it early.There many ways to go about this that would require you to have as much intel on your rivals while being ahead of them in every way possible. It is easy to do this is by constantly pointing out the flaws in your compositions plans or proposals with harsh criticism, hence exposing their weakness and publicly making them look bad.To make yourself look better, spread rumors about your rivals that will tarnish their reputations (just don't get caught) or anonymously email embarrassing photos to management, Human Resources, the boss and every one in the office.Be well connected: Connection is everything, so try to have professional connections with as many people in as many positions as possible. Don't kiss up to the boss (since every other idiot is doing that) but try to be personally connected with the several of the VP's along with the some mangers but don't neglect your equals or those below you.
