This occurs if you are a very skilled worker. For example a lawyer or a doctor will not benefit much from employment agencies. These types of workers tend to go directly to the law form or hospital.
If you have a great deal of experience and have contacts within the industry that you work in you will not need an agency.
When an agency can help find better jobs
There are a few types of employment agencies out there. Firstly there is an agency that is run by the government. This agency tends to help those who are on an unemployment benefit. If you have little work experience or are willing to take any type of job this agency will be a good start for you. The jobs advertised at these agencies are often for people with no work experience and pay minimum wage.
If you suffer from a disability there are agencies that are specifically focused on getting people with disabilities into employment. These agencies seek out employers that are willing to work with you and the limitations of your disability.
There are private employment agencies. These agencies work with companies to find suitable candidates. These agencies are paid a bonus by the companies that they work for if the employee they have just hired stays on for a certain period of time. This type of agency generally has entry level positions in customer service and also administrative roles. They tend to deal with big companies such as insurance companies and banks.
If you are a skilled worker with many years of experience an employment agency may not be able to help you. In some cases there are agencies that look for skilled upper level positions in accounting and scientific roles. Otherwise you will be better offer approaching companies directly.
If you are just starting your career an employment agency is a great way to get your foot in the door. They will help you get started and eventually you will have enough experience not to need an employment agency.
