Rainbow glass

There’s something magical about rainbows, and every mother will appreciate the beautiful colors and fruity flavors delivered in the form of arainbow glass.

Ingredients

For this project you’ll need jellos, also known as jellies, in all colors of the rainbow and a glass. Colors required are red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple.

Method

Pull apart squares of the first rainbow jelly which is red, and melt them with hot water as described on the back of jelly packaging. Don’t fill the glass too full. Remember that you’ll want to fit all colors of the rainbow inside the glass eventually.

When the jelly is set, which could take several hours or more, add the next color which is orange. Wait for the jelly to set once more before adding yellow, green, blue and purple jelly in the same manner.

The result will be a gorgeous array of color to cheer your mother’s heart on her special day.

Marzipan flower arrangement

Marzipan is easy to manipulate after being warmed in your hands. You can create beautiful flowers of any type, depending on your skill level, and paint them with food coloring as desired and leave to dry.

Thetypes of flowersyou may like to try are violets, daffodils, roses or daises.

Ingredients

Appropriate food coloring for the choice of flowers to be made and their leaves, plus a block of marzipan.

Method

Cut the block of marzipan into chunk sized portions and hold each one in your closed hands until warm enough to easily manipulate. Using a rolling pin roll each chunk into the desired thickness and use a small craft knife to cut out the shape of petals and leaves.

With the knife carefully make a line down the middle of each leaf. Stick the petals in place to form flowers using your finger tips. Patience and a little practice may be required, but the end results will be worth the effort.

Finish the uncoloured flowers by placing the marzipan leaves underneath them, so that they stick out to the sides of the flower. Use your finger tips or a craft knife to manipulate the marzipan so that the leaves stick into place.

Place the flowers into the fridge overnight so that they become harder and more resilient, before painting them with food coloring.

Presentation

Present your offerings in a gold, silver or white gift box made of card. Line the box with tissue paper to highlight the delicacy of the flowers, and tie up the closed box with a pretty ribbon to match the color of the flowers inside.

There are many other edible crafts to choose from which would equally delight your mother as a gift on Mothers Day. Peppermint creams, Oreos on a stick dipped in melted chocolate, ballerina cupcakes and cinnamon heart cookies are just a few.
