ALT-1 Christmas Gift Ideas
Many Americans during these hard economic times attempt to obtain quality Christmas products. Unfortunately, rising rates on credit cards and the money to pay for gas, rent, food and utilities has eaten up Christmas budgets. This year seems to be worse than previous years as budgets are shrinking.
One idea I had to make Christmas giving less stressful is selling a silver platter given to me years ago. While my intentions were to use it I realize that the box is still sealed and hidden in my closet. I can take it to a local gold and silver exchange retrieving enough funds to buy video games for one child.
That problem solved I come up another idea. My sister enjoys handmade scarves: I can spend time brushing up my knitting skills. She will enjoy wearing her new scarf during cold winter months. Armed with the knowledge that retail stores are trying to sell stuff, I check out the local newspaper and find coupons for yarn. Boy, this is exciting now!
I think about my boss who loves horses but has never owned one. I live out in the country, I know several people who stable horses. I contact a neighbor who has expressed interested in giving tours of her facility. She agreed to give my boss a tour and contract to provide lessons for him if I cleaned stalls. Problem number three solved with a bit of elbow grease and a fine neighbor.
My wonderful giving husband deserves something. This is complicated as I know he doesn't need anything but I want him to have a gift. Trying to retire, he informed me that he is taking on a hobby that I like- fishing. He has been watching me fish for years but this year he has shown interest. Solving number four is a local store which sells lures and line making this a good time to provide him with his own equipment: lures don't cost much and he will be delighted.
Fifth on my list: my horse trainers who lost their lease. They are in a predicament by having to move with the snow blowing and no place for them or their horses. They decided to rent a place several weeks ago which won't be ready until the first of the year. Having a warm barn, extra room and extra feed I will invite them to stay until their place is ready. She loves this inexpensivenecklacewhich I will give her as well.
Number six: my 97 year old, wonderful mother-in-law has everything she needs. This is a tricky one; but, she does have great grand babies who she loves dearly. It won't cost much to go to a discount store and purchase a picture frame to match the room dcor. My computer's editing program allows me to load pictures, edit, and mount in the picture frame. I will use pieces of an old necklace she used to wear to glue onto the frame.
Dandy, the best dog in the world, mustn't be forgotten on Christmas. He chased off a person trying to steal my truck last summer and he has been warming my feet on cold nights. A cooked roast, after it is cooked, will provide a bone: a wonderful gift for my faithful friend.
Our real estate agent has been having a difficult time this year with the housing market being so volatile. Idea number eight came when I realized I have been taking surveys online for months earning enough points for a gas card! That will be enough for her to take a must needed visit to her parents.
My oldest son wants for nothing: but, he has a dog that he loves and would do anything to make her happy. I have materials for a leash and he loves my oatmeal cookies. It would be great for them to get out and enjoy the park after eating cookies.
