ALT-1 Choosing the best Options for your new Vehicle
Are the Extras Worth It?
Choosing the perfect car is no easy task. Then, comes the added stress of added features. In an effort to improve lagging sales, the car industry has flooded consumers with gadgets, "must-haves", and extras until they are all but commonplace. But which options are essential to the buyer and which are a waste of money?
For the average family, the vehicle they purchase is for transport to destinations such as games, parties, and school. While the frills may be enticing, they more than likely are going to end up unused. Stick to safety options, such as a nice location device (such as OnStar), and side airbags to ease your mind. Look for a vehicle that will not deplete the college fund to drive. If your family can comfortably fit in a minivan instead of an SUV, then you are going to save on fuel costs. For the frequent family travelers, an entertainment system is useful to keep the bickering at a minimum! Remember, too, that most of the options offered to you, such as GPS and entertainment can be added later for less money.
While singles are interested in safety too, the additional cost for entire vehicle protection would be a waste. With fuel prices soaring, consider the option of a fuel efficient vehicle. OnStar, or a comparable service, is a good idea for those who may need assistance or who often drive alone for the added security of having someone nearby. A nice music system would be an asset to the single, but steer clear of unneeded extras, such as backing options and cameras. You did just fine without them, right?
For the average consumers, whether buying a family hauler or a work commuter, preplanning is essential to saving money. If you can do without it, do without it. While it may make your car worth more, there is no guarantee that the next buyer will be interested in it. Truth is, most people will never notice your rims or paint color. Most people are just trying to get where they need to be.
