ALT-1 Careers should you Follow your Boss to a new Job

From 3arf

Loyalty is lovely. If you are at a job and you love your boss, should you follow that boss to a new job? What a difficult question. The short answer is no. But the long answer is 'maybe.'

If your boss is not one of those filled with empty promises, then you might follow him.

If the only reason you love your job and are good at it is because your boss is awesome, then you might follow her.

If your boss can offer you the same or more money at their new job, with just as good job security, then you might follow him.

If your boss's new job is intriguing to you and you feel you can grow more in your career by following her there, then you might do so.

But if your current job is steady, you might want to consider staying. And if you really enjoy the work that you do and the pay that you get, you probably want to stick around. Also, if you want to follow your boss because you are secretly in love with him or her, think again and stay at your job.

Above all, think it through. Changing to a new job without a lot of pondering and honest soul-searching can sometimes bet the best thing you could do for your career. But, then again, sometimes it can be the worst.
