ALT-1 Career Advice the Myths of the Concept of Success
One myth on success is that you have to be at the right place at the right time. Well, that’s not being successful – that’s luck. And success is not built around luck. It is all built around action.
If others look at a successful person and say, “he’s lucky because he was at the right place at the right time” they are completely off track in their thinking. The reason a person is at the proverbial right place at the right time is because they did what it takes to be there – ready for the opportunity. They prepared themselves for it.
Books, lectures, inspirational speeches all address the secret to success. When what they are really doing is sharing age old truths that are not secrets – they are steps to take in order to put you in a position of success. There is no secret – but you will pay a large sum of money to hear what someone has to say if they hold the ‘secret to success’ won’t you?
Most people continually fail. They work hard, they take action, they are proactive, but they continually fail. Why do they fail? Because they quit before doing one more thing to put them on the map so-to-speak. They say where preparedness and opportunity meet, this is what determines success. And in order to succeed, quitting is not an option.
Examples of this are shown every day in the world of athletics. Teams with their backs against the walls. If they give up, they obviously lose. But they persevere, they are prepared, they do one more thing, and the next thing you know, a homerun ball is hit, a touchdown is made, a finger nail touches the wall before a dominant foe and a gold medal is won in swimming. They did not quit. They did not fail. They were prepared, they put themselves in a position of success, and they decided all or nothing.
If you are hired to do a job and you are not prepared, you will fail. This is the bottom line. If you sleep your way to a big college exam, you will fail. This is common sense. If you get hired to do a job, and you continue to educate yourself, you develop the core skills needed to achieve certain goals, you will eventually succeed! If you study and do the due diligence when preparing for the college exam, you are on the road to success!
So often people look at the successful and wonder what the secret is. And any person who wants to know the secret should ask. The most common answer any individual of success would be – hard work, consistency and persistence.
There is no secret. Being at the right place at the right time is not about luck. The secret, the myth, the end all factor to success is: hard work and perseverance.
Do what the successful people do instead of wonder what they do. Put yourself in the path of leaders, take actions - and instead of just doing things, do things right. Think like a successful person thinks and realize that a successful individual does not think success because they are successful, they thought success on their journey in order to be successful.
This habit took them to where they want to go – and again, as they say, you are what’s hidden in your daily habits.
If your habit is to always find reasons why you will never succeed, then you will never succeed. If your habit is to always think success and to do what ‘they do’, then yes, you are sure to succeed!
Dispelling the myth of success is as simple as this. We are all on the same playing field. The successful people take action and believe that what they do will lead to success. The unsuccessful think its all about luck, take no action, and complain about it for the rest of their lives.
Success is difficult. But that’s where opportunity opens the door. Because where there is difficulty, there is opportunity. When there is opportunity, the prepared succeed, and the others think there’s a secret they have yet to discover.
Be prepared. Take action. That is the only way to find yourself at the right place at the right time.
