ALT-1 Can you Find Fulfillment at the Workplace
Most people are able to find some kind of fulfilment in the workplace, even if they are doing a job they despise. Having a job to go to at least provides you with something to occupy your time and enables you to earn some money. Even if you do not particularly enjoy your job, you will be able to derive a sense of satisfaction from the fact that you have a job to go to. You also can interact with your fellow workmates and possibly customers, which is beneficial for your overall well-being. Without a job it is easy to become isolated and depressed, making it impossible to be fulfilled in any area of your life.Of course, although it is possible to derive a sense of fulfilment in the workplace, you cannot always rely on work to fulfil your every need and desire. Some people throw themselves into their work when they are dissatisfied with other areas of their life. If you do not want to go home because you’re afraid to be alone or due to relationship issues, occupying yourself with work is not necessarily the way to go. Although you may not have to think about whatever it is that is worrying you, you cannot escape your problems forever and working all the time certainly won’t help resolve them. However, your job can be a fulfilling one if you are able to strike the right balance between your home and work life. You may not have a particularly skilled job and find the work repetitive and tedious, but you can at least cling to the fact that you have a regular wage as well as an opportunity to work alongside and interact with your workmates who may well have become friends. When you’re at work you might wish you were at home, but you know that in reality if you had to spend all day at home you would go slightly mad due to the isolation. It would also become more of a struggle to survive financially. If you’re lucky enough to be pursuing a career that challenges and interests you it should be much easier for you to find fulfilment, because you do not have to focus on the monetary or social benefits of your job as much. Instead, you can concentrate on what you enjoy about your job, which will inevitably help you achieve career success. If you have a passion for the job you do, you can push yourself to go the extra mile and get ahead in your career. This will benefit your self-esteem and leave you feeling fulfilled as far as your career goes. It is obviously up to you to ensure other areas in your life are as fulfilling. It is always tempting to think about the negative aspects of having to go to work every day, which can make you forget that even in the most boring and seemingly unrewarding jobs you should be able to gain an element of fulfilment. Your job may not involve changing the world, but you are still making a positive contribution to society, which is always worth remembering.
