One of of the best places to buy cheap motorcycles, is the Internet. Always remember though, cheap doesnt always mean value. Remember also, that if someone has a motor cycle that is totally unreliable or if it has a major fault, they are going to try and sell it on, beware you are not the one who buys it.
There are thousands of cheap motorcycles for sale out there on the Internet. Bearing in mind the transport costs, it is best to look locally first. Mainly because of the pitfalls mentioned earlier. Give yourself a radius of say forty miles, in which to search.
Besides the web, there are lots of magazines with sections devoted to motor cycles for sale. Also in most areas, there are free newspapers, that specialize in selling goods including motorcycles. Perhaps a good place to start your search after you have decided what sort of motorcycle your after, is to read a couple of Motorcycle magazines, first to see what is listed for sale, and also to pick up any hints about any particular make or model with regular troublesome faults.
Some Countrys may have magazines like "Which" in the UK, that champions hard for the consumer. Check a copy out, for any information available. They may well have previously published reports on the motorcycles that you may be interested in. When you have chosen one, if possible, go and take a look at it. It is always adviseable to take a friend with you, who knows about motorcycles.
In my case, I understand a bit more about cars, so I wouldnt know what to look for in the motorcycle, that could be a warning against buying, so I would take the route mentioned here. Generally low mileage motorcycle would be a safer option. That though, is not alway's the case. Some people's riding style's can wreck a gearbox or whatever in only a few miles, so mileage has only to be a guide.
Other things to look for are for signs of an accident. Although everything may look nice and bright and shiny, look to see if the frame been damaged in some way. Bent or misaligned forks are possible after an accident. Loook for sign's of wear in the engine. Excessive smoke is a clear signal that all is not well. Other sign's to look out for are engine rattle's, especially after reving the engine slightly, and listening on the slow down. The cleanliness of the oil filler cap can be a good guid as well, too frequent filling may be clear from caked on oil around the filler pipe.
