ALT-1 Best Muscle Cars
Since I grew up in Cal, I spent most of my life around cars. The best muscle cars would depend on what you consider best, are you looking for horsepower, style, performance? All these are factors of what is the best.
Muscle cars started in the early 60's with the Corvette. The 1963 split window being one of their best designs. Then Ford brought out the Mustang. The Mustang made it's debut with all hooves pounding. A few hearts pounded too. It was a lot of peoples favorite and to this day is still the favorite of some collectors. This was late 1964, when what is called the "64 1/2" came out.
Now it was on, the muscle car era is born. Every major American manufacturer was in on the game. A lot of interesting and creative ideas came out. Each manufacturer had their own unique plan. AMC made the Javlin, which later became the AMX. Buick build the GSX, and the Wildcat. Muscle with luxury. Chevy came up with the Nova, the Chevelle, the Corvette, and the Camaro. Chrysler went all out with raw horse power. The Coronet was the first streetable Hemi. The Chargers, Challengers, Cudas, and Road Runners all followed right behind. Mopar lovers will tell you these are the best. For many people these ar their all time favorites. For other Ford had the best design and the best idea of performance. Ford brought out following the Mustang the Fairlane, the Falcon, the Torino, and the Thunderbird for combination of muscle and luxury. Mecury had the Comet, the Cougar, and the Cyclone GT. Pontiac made the GTO, the Tempest, LeMans, and the Grand Prix. Oldsmobile made the 442, and the Cutlass.
All of these vehicles were pretty much even competition from stock conditions. What makes the difference is what has been done after market. What quality of parts have been put on, who has done the work and how knowledgeable they are. The best could be fully built with every modification there is out there. It could also be totally stock just the way it came out of the factory. This is a matter of personal preference. Any one of these vehicles would give you a run for your money any day of the week. Every one of these vehicles would be a blast to drive. All of these vehicles a person could be proud to own, so I would have to say the best muscle car comes from the era they were born.
