From 3arf

Being a dedicated employee, even if you hate your job, will create a set of standards and work ethic you can follow and implement into other jobs, until you find the job you love.

Being a dedicated employee on the job, means different things to different people. For some, they feel as if being dedicated, means they show up to work everyday, when no one else does or they don't want to. Irregardless of how they perform on the job or how productive and contributing to the success of the company they are. That is their level of dedication.

First you must determine what you want your level of dedication to be. If your idea of being dedicated is to show up, perform menial tasks and not contribute anything more than a presence and get paid for it, then so be it. You might not keep the job very long, but in your mind you were dedicated and possibly, the simple fact that you show up consistently would be enough for your employer to feel as though you were dedicated and give you a good reference later on if needed.

For many though, being dedicated requires more. Being a dedicated worker in most companies eyes, not only means showing up, but being prepared, consistent and contributing. It also entails, performing to your best ability to help the company achieve goals and succeed.

To be a dedicated employee, one must focus on the goals of the company and the way that they can individually contribute to benefit the company, the most. This could mean extra hours, more detailed and harder work assignments, the ability to contribute more time and in some situations, make a greater effort to get along and work with others.

A sincerely, dedicated employee on the job, makes a noticeable effort to go the extra mile, with meeting deadlines, performing quality work, keeping informed and producing results. Often the more dedicated worker, expresses their satisfaction with a job, by continuing throughout their job life cycle instead of just the assignments they like. This dedication is carried over into assignments, they dislike or struggle with as well.

A dedicated employee, that attempts to perform this way on the job is a benefit to the company and is considered an asset. Usually, recognition is nice, but rarely given or appreciated. This should not sway you from being a dedicated employee on the job, eventually your worth will be recognized and if not, you will have at least gained the experience to know when you should be a little less dedicated to a company.
