ALT-1 Bad Bosses how to Work with a Time Waster
In today's dynamic environment where every moment, fortunes of companies and employees (CEOs, Managers, Team members etc) are rapidly changing, many human resource experts wonder and spend lot of time on research to understand the employees' motivation factor in an organization.
There had been examples from giant companies, where good people leave irrespective of handsome perks and lively ambience. So the major factor enabling an employee to quit is his /her supervisor or boss.
Everyday when people get up and think of going to work, they definitely think of their boss! This determines the motivation and productivity of a person. However, mostly behavior of a boss is inevitable. Then how can one understand or at least try to manage to know his/her boss?
The best answer would be to empathize! One needs to understand the reason behind the behavior of a person, if it is boss or co-worker. The problems with bosses arise due to following situations
- Restructuring/Re-organization- Mergers & Acquisitions- Co-workers who pass on the information to the Boss- Pressure on Boss himself/herself- Bosses who do not have character integrity- Bosses with poor leadership and management skills
These are potential causes for a Boss not to behave in our best interests. So one needs to analyze the situation and can react in the below manner
- Understand/Empathize with your Boss- Get together in informal meetings- Keep an eye on a co-worker who is spying around- If the Boss is new, give him/her sometime to know the processes- Be flexible and work collaboratively if the deadlines are near- If you are boss is still obsessed with you even after you co-operated, then maintain alow profile- Bosses with poor leadership skills will definitely get expose and will be expelled at theright time- If none of the above work then it's a wise idea for employee to quit, as one can affordto lose a battle when there is a war to win
It's always better to work in win-win situation and empathizing with your boss! If nothing works out, it's not good to waste time any further!
