ALT-1 Are Hybrid Cars Cool or Uncool – Cool
Hybrid cars are a qualified "cool." The cars that look like they came out of a cereal box are definitely not cool. These early hybrid cars were primarily focused on the hybrid technology and thus, there was little thought given to luxury or looks. Hybrid cars are cool in the sense that they pollute less and are extremely quite. However, if we are talking about pure visual appeal, the early hybrid cars where definitely not cool.
However, as time has gone by and the hybrid technology has advanced, the cars that are being made into hybrids are downright jaw dropping. A perfect example of this is the cars that Lexus have recently put out. For example, the Lexus LS hybrid has 58 more horsepower than the regular Lexus LS and has better gas mileage. Additionally, the Lexus LS hybrid goes from 0-60 miles per hour in 5.5 seconds. This is impressive because Lexus is not a sports car brand.
The Lexus hybrid line-up in just one example of how far the hybrid car has come. GM has made a couple of very impressive hybrids. One such hybrid is the Chevy Tahoe. I know that Chevy is not in the same league as Lexus, but there is a reason for brining up the Chevy Tahoe. The Chevy Tahoe is a full size SUV. As such, it weighs far more than a Lexus LS hybrid. However, even though this giant car is far bigger than the Lexus LS, the Chevy Tahoe looks great and still gets up to 20 miles per gallon of gasoline.
The point is, even though the hybrid car started off slow, it has become a way cooler car as the technology has increased. As such, the hybrid cars nowadays have more power and the same amount of luxury as their gasoline powered counterparts. However, because the hybrid models are more expensive (and in some cases, far more expensive) than their gasoline powered counterparts, they may not be an economic option for you.
Even if the price of the car is the thing that prevents you from buying a hybrid, you have to admit that it is no longer the looks, power, or luxury of the hybrid car that makes them unappealing. Therefore, as the technology further advance and thus, makes these cars cheaper than or the same price as their gasoline counterparts, you can expect that the hybrid car will completely take over the automobile market.
