ALT-13 Good Reasons for Quitting your Job

From 3arf

I am of an age when I can safely say that I have been around the block a bit, especially as far as work is concerned. Over the years my work has varied from museums to betting shops to a hospital and to an undertakers. This is only to name a but few jobs and is by no means an exhaustive list, as they say. So what I would feel were good reasons to quit your job would be:-

IMPROVED PACKAGE ON OFFERYou are offered work which has much better prospects, a higher salary, better working conditions and or improved working hours.

NO TIME TO LIVE OUTSIDE OF WORKPerhaps your job is interfering with your home life. Maybe you even have to be on call and the disturbances are wrecking your home and family life. If you can't negotiate a better deal and are unhappy find new employment.

TRAVEL TIMEIt can be such a pain if you have to travel many miles to get to your work. If you discover that you could get the same work and money nearer home you would be mad not to take it.

BORING AND BASICAlthough money is usually the prime reason for working it is also good to be challenged. If you are bored silly it may be as well to seek a more developed role. Check out your human resources first to see if there are any opportunities to move roles within the same company. If not you may have to quit and move job.

UNHAPPINESSIt can be a good reason to quit your work if you are not happy because of it. Having checked out all the options, by making sure that you understand what is making you unhappy and seeing if you can address it first, the only choice may be to quit. We spend so much of our adult life working that there must be some satisfaction or enjoyment, as well as the money, or else what is the point. When you move out of your comfort zone it is often the best move and variety is the spice of life, so they say.

OVERALLReally think before you decide to quit your job. Any other work offers may not end up giving you stable and long term employment. It is very true that 'the other man's grass is always greener' and so is the statement that 'you could end up out of the frying pan and into the fire' Many new jobs seem wonderful at the start but it does not take long for the rot to set in. When this happens that other old saying that 'familiarity breeds contempt is very true'.

Make sure that you are not quitting your job out of spite, ordinary occasional everyday boredom or just because of some petty squabble. These occurrences are likely to happen wherever you work so consider the move well before you ultimately decide. If you do this then hopefully you will make the right choice, not regret the move and be able to embrace the change with open arms.
