ALT-12 The Significance of different Rose Colors

From 3arf

Valentines Day is here, and it is time to be the most romantic person possible for that significant other. This is the biggest time for jewelry, chocolates and roses to be given to the women of our culture. With every gift, the risk is run of sending the wrong message to the woman in ones life. So, granted, if one has a girlfriend/fianc/wife that is more concerned with the particular meaning of the roses color than the fact that the man in her life even remembered to bring her flowers, or even if he brought her the type of flower that is her favorite, he ought to know what the colors mean.

Red roses, the most common to be given, are a romantic kind of rose. Red tends to be a color of passion, thus allowing the roses of this color to be referred to as "Valentine roses." However, in contrast to the red rose, the purple, coral, and orange roses are also considered Valentine roses for several reasons. For example, the purple roses signify that the giver has fallen in love with the receiver at first sight, and the coral and orange roses are roses that signify desire.

The significance of other roses is not so romantic in their meanings. Yellow roses symbolize joy and friendship, while pink roses express gratitude and appreciation. Light pink roses however show feelings of admiration and sympathy. Peach roses can signify sympathy or gratitude. White roses however, much like the significance of white candles, hold a meaning of reverence and humility. Black roses have iffy meanings, whether they mean death or simply Goth. Thus, these are usually not recommended due to the dark message associated with them.

In the end of the day however, in addition to making sure that the roses that one sends are sending the right message, one must make sure they know what type of flowers the recipients prefer, if they would prefer flowers at all. Valentines day is the day for lovers; so thus, they should keep it so with the innermost desires of each couple. Or even yet, a "singles day out" with friends exchanging gifts and roses instead of the traditional "Valentine's Date."
