2011 Lexus is 250

From 3arf

There are already two IS reviews here on Helium.com; the IS 350 and the IS-F.  So, if this was the case, do you think there is a point of doing a review on the IS 250?  Well, yes, and no.  You see, all three cars (not counting the new IS-C) are pretty similar; it is just the engines are different, as well as standard and optional equipment.  The 2011 Lexus IS 250 is pretty comparable to the 4-cylinder Acura TSX, the BMW 328i, the all-new Infiniti G25, and the Mercedes-Benz C300.  Does Japan have what it takes to catch up to its German counterparts with Lexus’ IS 250?  Let’s find out.

The IS 250 obviously has a smaller engine than the 350 and of course, the IS-F.  With a decently-powered 2.5-liter inline-6 putting out 204 horsepower and 185 lb-ft. of torque, the IS 350’s “little brother” has the ability to sprint from 0-60 mph in a time of close to 8 seconds; not too bad for a car that can catch up to its German counterpart, the BMW 328i.  The steering is very responsive, as well as the brakes, thanks to its ABS, EBD, and Brake Assist systems.

For 2011, the Lexus IS has a few options that are new which were not two years back.  Both a USB port for your iPod or iPhone as well as Bluetooth (which was usually standard with the $4,000 navigation package) are a couple of examples.  Also, if someone does not have enough to purchase an IS-F, but wants that IS-F look, there is the “F”-Sport package which includes a lowered aerodynamic kit, upgraded magnesium rims, brake calipers and discs, as well as a tweaked suspension.

The IS 250 drives rather smooth like its brother, the IS 350; again, the 250 has a much smaller engine displacement; however, I would not think that paddle-shifters behind the steering wheel would be necessary for an engine this small.  Another spark of criticism that I have for this car (or any of the other trims in the IS line for that matter) is the headroom.  It is horribly little for a guy my stature.  When I put the seat to my driving position, I felt like the headliner is almost up to the point where my head is going to hit it.  Don’t you hate that feeling?  Overall, this car would be perfect for someone who likes [decent] power, and efficiency.

Speaking of fuel efficiency, because of the smaller engine displacement, the IS 250 gets a respectable 21 miles per gallon in the city and 29-30 miles per gallon on the highway.  Of course, depending on your driving habits, you may be able to push that mileage just a little bit higher.
